Al Hart Named Honorary Chairman of 2001 Charlie Wedemeyer Celebration of Hope Dinner

Former "voice" of KCBS morning show will also be featured speaker at the annual ALS Fundraiser and scholarship awards dinner

Los Gatos, Calif. (April 17, 2001) - The Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach (CWFO), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to fight ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease), today announced that Al Hart has graciously accepted to be the honorary chairman of the third annual Charlie Wedemeyer Celebration of Hope Dinner. The evening is planned for May 10 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, where CWFO will also award $30,000 worth of scholarships to six local high school athletes who have overcome significant adversity. Mr. Hart is best known throughout the Bay Area as "voice" of KCBS-AM (740), where he hosted the morning news program from 1966 until June 2000. He retired last year after 52 years as a radio journalist to spend time with his wife, Sally, who was diagnosed with ALS.

"I've seen first-hand the devastating affects ALS has had on my wife, and am glad to be able to help CWFO raise awareness and money to eradicate the disease," said Mr. Hart. "It's an inspiration to know that the dinner will also be supporting local students who have endured their own adversities with strength and hope."

In addition to Mr. Hart, there will be a number of sports celebrities on hand at the event, including 49er great Ronnie Lott and Sharks favorite Tony Granato. The dinner will include a cocktail reception, live entertainment, silent and live auctions, the scholarship awards ceremony and featured speakers.
