Every year, the Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach distributes scholarship awards to a handful of young, local athletes. Its that time again. The athletes, who have all overcome some adversity or have 'given greatly' to their respective communities, will be honored at the Second Annual Charlie Wedemeyer Scholarship Awards Dinner on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.

The recipients are:

		Kristine Goulart San Jose High Academy				Girmay Guangul Santa Clara High School				Ernesto Ramirez Archbishop Mitty High School
		Toni Spasaro Santa Teresa High School				Josh Visperas Gunderson High School				Nancy Vo Prospect High School

Each will receive a $5,000 scholarship to further their education.

Local sports celebrities including Ronnie Lott, Brent Jones, Peggy Fleming, and Chuck Muncie will participate in the awards ceremony. All money raised, goes to support the non-profit Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach, reaching out to individuals and families coping with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
